Hilary Picton: Oonagh Glancy and Jenny Read, playing together for the first time proved a formidable pair. They made few mistakes in beating St Mellion's Candy Birch and Annie Januszewski and, although they met some strong opposition in Val Collard and Judith Farris they found their way to victory. Olga Rogers' experience and Mary Harold's consistency gained them a hard-fought victory against Val and Judith having come back from 0-2 in both sets. The tie-break at 5-5 in set 2 went the way of St Mellion but Tavi just edged the deciding tie-break. Candy and Annie took a consolation rubber against them.
